For the First Time Ever, Cannabis Oil Used in a Hospital to Save a 2-Month Old Baby
Nicole Nunez brought her adorable baby girl into the world in December. But, once she and her husband Ernie brought the little Amylea home, the things went wrong.
Nicole said Amylea had her first seizure a day after they brought her home from delivery. Doctors said the little girl has a rare form of epilepsy, whose exact type they cannot determine.
The Nunez family struggled to find proper treatment for Amylea in the place where they lived, Albuquerque, New Mexico, for few months. Unfortunately, they didn’t succeeded so they moved to Colorado. The mother stays with the baby in the hospital in Aurora, while the father drives back and forth to work and to take care of their other children.
Doctors in the Children’s Hospital in Aurora continued to give Amylea drug cocktail to stop her terrible seizures, but the drugs have their own side effects. The father explains that the drugs the baby is on, are too strong for her liver, so they wanted to try do something that won’t be so devastating for her body. That’s why the parents decided to use cannabis oil.
Once the parents found out about the incredible effects of cannabis oil called as Charlotte’s Web, their hope was back and they were determined to get it for their little girl. The strain of cannabis known as Charlotte’s Web saved the life of a young girl named Charlotte Figi, hence the name. The first seizure of Charlotte happened when she was only 3 months old, and then the seizures continued in the next several months, and started lasting 2 to 4 hours.
Charlotte’s parents discovered a strain of cannabis that helped their daughter a lot in terms of her suffering. Ever since then, this incredible plant has saved the lives of countless children. Nicole reminds how she tried to talk the doctors to approve the cannabis strain. Her fight lasted a good three weeks, during which she was working with the neurology team and case study team.
It was this week that doctors finally approved the use of cannabis oil in the treatment of Amylea while still in hospital. Nicole shares her excitement when the cannabis oil was approved while Amylea was still a patient in the hospital. Before, doctors were completely against it, saying the baby girl has to wait until she is out of the hospital.
Although the oil was approved to be used in the hospital, the doctors won’t administer it to Amylea. Therefore, the parents had to do it themselves. According to the nurses, the condition of the baby girl changed positively after a handful of doses. She is the first and youngest patient to have cannabis oil included in her treatment in hospital.
Treating an infant with cannabis oil in hospital is a significant move that shows cannabis is a viable medical option. This makes the federal government classification of cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug completely immoral and absurd.
Cannabis oil was proven to be extremely effective in treating intractable epilepsy, according to the Free Thought Project. The study involved 261 patients who received CBD treatment. 45 percent of them showed drastic lowering in seizure frequency, while 9 percent were free from seizures for a period of 3 months. There were children who continued to feel the benefits even a year after the study.
It turns out that the same plant which saves lives of epileptic children, cures cancer, treats many other serious conditions, and is used in hospital in one state, is also the reason for imprisonment by police in another state.
Police should start refusing the orders to lock people who possess this healing plant. They should be on the right side of history, and not wait for legislation to tell them stop imprisoning and kidnapping people for a plant. It’s time to question the validity of a job which includes violating the rights of peaceful, non-violent people who try to save the life of someone close to them.
