Numerous people use alcohol and they rub it to disinfect things or as an adhesive removal. But, we’re here to tell you that you can also use it for numerous other uses, even in cosmetics!

  1. Get rid of bed bugs

Bed bugs can pose a great problem if you try to get rid of them once you get them. They can sneak home with you after vacation or a stay at an unhygienic friend’s house, even if you’re very careful. Rubbing alcohol can help you kill these nasty pests! Just fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray it generously over your pillows and mattress. Bed bugs lay eggs, so it’s very important to repeat this process several times so you can get rid of them completely.

  1. Deodorant replacement

You’re away for the weekend and you forgot your deodorant? Don’t worry, because rubbing alcohol kills the bacteria that causes bad body odor and is very easy to find it in every first-aid kit. But, you should know that you should only use it temporarily, because long exposure to alcohol can irritate your skin.

  1. Homemade cool pack

Alcohol won’t turn to ice if you put it in the freezer. It will turn to a cold, thick mass. Thanks to this property, you can use alcohol to make your own cooling pad. Pour 1 part alcohol and 2 parts water into a sealable plastic bag. Remove as much air as possible before placing it in the freezer. The mixture should be the right texture after an hour or so. You could also use this as an ice pack for an injury or just to cool your lunch, for example.

  1. Kill lice

Rubbing some alcohol is also great for removing lice. Just fill a spray bottle with alcohol and add several drops of lavender oil. Go outside and apply this mixture on your scalp and hair generously. Comb your hair to remove dead lice. According to the Wisconsin Division of Public Health you should leave used lice combs soaking in the mixture for at least 1 hour to make sure all the bugs are taken care of.

  1. Clean your ears

Cotton swaps are used by people to clean their ears, but this method is actually dangerous since it buries wax deeper and deeper in the ear canal. But, now, there is an easier way to clean your ears! Just, mix white vinegar and rubbing alcohol together in a cup. Dip a cotton swap in the mixture and drop it into your ears. You’ll see that the wax will be removed on its own.

  1. Remove fingernail polish

The harsh chemical acetone is a great part of the typical nail polish. But, it can damage your nails. You may even start feeling nauseous from the fumes. One possible alternative is just rubbing alcohol. Your nails won’t be damaged in the process although it may take a little longer to completely remove the polish.

  1. No more ingrown hairs

Ingrown hair is actually the worst. After you’ve shaved your bikini line or armpits, the area is usually covered in red dots. You can calm them down by just applying a bit of alcohol on your skin. The alcohol will alleviate any irritation and it will also leave your skin looking smooth once again.

Its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, will disinfect any existing pimples, but they will also sooth the surrounding skin and help you prevent additional ones from popping up. Apply it directly to the pimple, because extended use can cause skin irritation.

  1. Cold sores

85% percent of people have the herpes virus. Still, only a small number will have the painful outbreak. If you have painful outbreak at some point, try using 70% isopropyl alcohol on the spots. The University of Michigan claims that this will make the herpes sores go away faster.
